Important Considerations for Gill Measurements:
The **UK Imperial gill** is equal to 1/4 of an Imperial pint, or 5 Imperial fluid ounces.
An Imperial fluid ounce (~28.413 ml) is slightly smaller than a US fluid ounce (~29.573 ml).
Therefore, 1 UK Imperial Gill ≈ 142.065 ml or approximately 4.804 US fluid ounces.
The US also had a historical "gill" unit, which was 4 US fluid ounces (1/2 US cup or ~118 ml). See our separate chart for US Gill.
When encountering "gill" in an old British recipe, it refers to the Imperial gill.
